Tamaki is called The Dark Knight because of his reputation as a monster hunter at day and some say they have spotted him from afar at night in a mysterious form. Not much is known about him. He only appears when he's needed most and is gone as fast he arrived with his slayed prey. From the villagers he got his surname based on his look and way to fight unholy beasts. Even if he acts only for the good, he's still feared by many. Nevertheless, his heart is on the right place.
He eventually gave up wearing armor shoes not only due of his manifest at night, but because he's able to feel the vibrations on the ground and distinguish between monsters and humans steps.

He meet Hatori as he was hunting a monster which lured Hatori into a trap and it was almost over for her. As a bird, in this world it is not easy to survive. Especially since Hatori has been banned from her homeland she was left on their own. With her healing abilities, it was a wonder she survived this far. Tamaki was unsure at first if her look could be only an apparence which would transform back in her true best from in every moment - but he soon realized that she was indeed only an harphy lost in this big world. It was the first time he meet a non-human creature which is not evil.
